How many wives did Sulayman (A.S.) have?

Question

what is the number of wives sulayman aklay salam had it it true he had over 100 wives??? How did that be allowed? Where is the grave and resting place of sulayman alay salam?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Hereunder is the relevant Hadith from Bukhari and it’s translation:

Translation: Sulayman said “I will roam around the night to all of my 100 or 99 wives”…[1]

In our Shari’ah, a person is permitted to marry only four women at once with certain conditions. The location of the grave of Hadrath Suleman Alayhi Salam is not absolutely known.

قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِمَا السَّلاَمُ: لَأَطُوفَنَّ اللَّيْلَةَ عَلَى مِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ، أَوْ تِسْعٍ وَتِسْعِينَ كُلُّهُنَّ، يَأْتِي بِفَارِسٍ يُجَاهِدُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ صَاحِبُهُ: إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، فَلَمْ يَقُلْ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، فَلَمْ يَحْمِلْ مِنْهُنَّ إِلَّا امْرَأَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ، جَاءَتْ بِشِقِّ رَجُلٍ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ، لَوْ قَالَ: إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ، لَجَاهَدُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، فُرْسَانًا أَجْمَعُونَ
