Question

I am working as a business agent in UAE. As per Law of UAE, any nonnational investor has must do a business agreement with any UAE nationality holder to set up any personal business in the country. And for this business agreement, UAE nationality holder charge some amount to nonnational investor that is known as the sponsorship fee. I, as a business consultant, settle the business agreement between the Foreign investor and UAE national. Against this mutual agreement, I take a service fee from the investor. But separated from the service fee, the UAE nationality holder also gives me the commission from his sponsor fee without notifying the Business Investor. So, please advise either my commission that I get from the sponsor fee is halal or not. I am waiting for your kind reply. Thank you.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Your uneasiness related to earning halal is an expression of your Iman.

In principle, it is permissible to receive commission[1] in return of the brokerage services provided by you[2].

If the UAE nationality holder offers you an amount from his side without any formal agreement between you and him, that is a gift from his side to you.

It is permissible for you to accept that gift from UAE nationality holder.
