Usage of contraception/IUD

Question

Asalamm o alikum, I am blessed with baby boy and his age is now 45 days. We want gap between next baby because Dr says that Gap between baby is good for Mother and next baby. for that i want contraception IUD only for 2 years as he is on breast feed. can we use that for this. Is the use of IUD is Haram?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Temporary contraception (including the usage of IUDs) is permissible.[1]

ويكره للزوج أن يعزل عن امرأته الحرة بغير رضاها؛ لأن الوطء عن إنزال سبب لحصول الولد، ولها في الولد حق، وبالعزل يفوت الولد، فكأنه سببا لفوات حقها، وإن كان العزل برضاها لا يكره؛ لأنها رضيت بفوات حقها، ولما روي عن رسول الله - صلى الله عليه وسلم - أنه قال: «اعزلوهن أو لا تعزلوهن إن الله تعالى إذا أراد خلق نسمة، فهو خالقها»

قال: "ويعزل عن أمته بغير إذنها ولا يعزل عن زوجته إلا بإذنها" لأنه عليه الصلاة والسلام نهى عن العزل عن الحرة إلا بإذنها، وقال لمولى أمة: "اعزل عنها إن شئت"، ولأن الوطء حق الحرة قضاء للشهوة وتحصيلا للولد ولهذا تخير في الجب والعنة، ولا حق للأمة في الوطء فلهذا لا ينقص حق الحرة بغير إذنها
