Will I be considered Musafir if I take a longer route?

Question

Asalamalakum Mufti,

I will be traveling from Seattle to Tacoma direct is about 33 miles. I have a few stops I have to make that adds about 25+ miles. Would I be Musafir?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu 'alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle if one takes a route that is 48 miles or more when travelling from one place to another, then one will be a Musafir.[1]

In the enquired scenario you will be a Musafir when taking the longer route.
