Maximum Duration For Breastfeeding

Question

I would like to know till what age can a baby drink breast milk. Is this age different for a boy or girl?

Answer

The maximum period for breastfeeding a child is 2 years after birth regardless of gender.

وقد اختلف فيه قال أبو حنيفة: ثلاثون شهرا ولا يحرم بعد ذلك سواء فطم أو لم يفطم، وقال أبو يوسف ومحمد – رحمهما الله تعالى -: حولان لا يحرم بعد ذلك فطم أو لم يفطم، (بدائع الصنائع في ترتيب الشرائع 4/6 دار الكتب العلمية)
