Question

Is it permissible for ladies to partake in Janazah Salaah?

I witnessed ladies performing Janazah Salaah behind the men in a certain area last night.

Also a senior member of Islamic Organization was present.

Answer

For women to participate in Salatul-Janazah or for that matter, to attend the men’s congregation in the Masjid for any Salaah would be Makrooh. Women should hence not join the men’s congregation in Salatul-Janazah. The mere presence of a senior member of an Islamic Organization does not sanction such an action.

حدثنا وكيع، عن مثنى بن سعيد، عن حممد بن المنتشر، قال: كان مسروق لا يصلي على جنازة معها امرأة.

(ويكره حضورهن الجماعة) ولو لجمعة وعيد ووعظ )مطلقا( ولو عجوزا ليلا )على المذهب( المفتى به لفساد الزمان واستثنى الكمال حبثا العجائز المتفانية

)كما تكره إمامة الرجل لهن في بيت ليس معهن رجل غيره ولا محرم منه) كأخته )أو زوجته أو أمته، أما إذا كان معهن واحد ممن ذكر أو أمهن في المسجد لا يكره، بحر.
