Question

Can interest funds be utilized to pay one’s rates and taxes, as these taxes may be categorized as oppression.

Answer

Our Darul Ifta does not approve of utilizing interest funds to pay for rates and taxes as this is tantamount to taking benefit from interest funds. The recipients of interest funds are poor Muslims that are eligible for Zakaat or poor non-Muslims.
