Responsibility of maintaining one’s daughter

Question

If a father doesn’t maintain his biological daughter, then who will be responsible to take care of her?

Answer

The responsibility of maintaining one’s children does not shift or move from the father on to another family member during the father’s lifetime. It is purely the duty of the father to provide for and maintain his minor kids. He is responsible to maintain his female offspring until their marriage. If the father fails to fulfil his responsibility of maintaining his daughter (in spite of having the ability to do so), then he will be held accountable in the court of the Allah Ta’ala.
