Read Maghrib, Esha and Fajr softly when performing Salaah individually
Question
If a person is performing Maghrib, Esha or Fajr individually, is it necessary for him to recite loudly, or can he recite softly? Will his Salaah be valid if he recites softly?
Answer
In essence, when Fajr, Maghrib and Esha prayers are performed in congregation, it is Waajib / necessary to recite aloud. However, when Salaah is performed individually, one has the choice to either recite loudly or softly, but reciting aloud is preferred.[i]
The Munfarid is permitted to recite aloud as he is considered as the Imaam in his own Salaah; whilst he is also permitted to recite in a soft tone (whereby he is able to listen to himself) as he does not have any followers that are required to listen to him. However, when reciting aloud, he should maintain a moderate tone. In conclusion, he has a choice of either reciting loudly or in a soft tone.
