Question

There are ten of us planning a fishing trip in Durban together. We will be out at sea during one salaah of Asr. The boat is so small that we can only sit and fish. We are unable to walk around, or make a Jamaat. Can we read the Fard of Asr Salaah while sitting?

Answer

It will be permissible to perform Salaah whilst sitting in a ship or boat, according to Imaam Abu Hanifa Rahimahullah.

“Performing fard salaah on the plane seat is not valid for the person who has the ability to stand and perform salaah. Hence, the salaah performed on the plane seat was not valid and one's fard did not take place.”
