Question

I know that the Palestinian people are experiencing difficult times. Recently, a US military soldier burnt himself to death in support of Palestine and against Israeli genocide. In fact, there is a video being circulated of him burning himself to death. I support Palestine but I was upset with the people sharing the video. Am I correct in doing so?

Answer

We understand from your query that the person who burnt himself to death was a non-Muslim who was part of the US army. It is obvious that they are not aware of the rulings of Shariah and therefore regard it as permissible to carry out such actions in support of the Palestinian people. We do not deny that their intentions may be noble, but such actions are prohibited in the Shariah. The Quraan Sharif states, “And do not kill yourself.” You were therefore correct in preventing others from sharing the video as we Muslims do not promote such behaviour and actions.
