Using a silver-plated pen

Question

I received a silver-plated pen. Is it permissible for me to use it and inform me if I am required to pay Zakaat on it?

Answer

The silver pen may be used and Zakaat will only have to paid on it if the pen is made of pure silver. If a silver colouring was used on it, then one will not be required to pay Zakaat.
