Question

The distance from the Eid Gah to the closest Masjid is 700m by road. On Eid day, Fajr Jamaat is performed at the Eid Gah grounds. Is it permissible to perform Fajr Jamaat at the grounds when the Masjid is close by?

Answer

As far as possible, Fardh Salaah should be performed in Jamaat in the Masjid. The virtue of performing Salaah in the Masjid cannot be attained at the Eidgah. Yes, if there is an urgent need to perform Fajr Salaah at the Eidgah (such as security reasons as the mats are laid and the speakers set up), then it will be acceptable to do so. In the absence of such a need, Salaah should be performed in the Masjid.
