Calculating Safr Distance

Question

When calculating the distance for Safr, will the starting point be calculated from the point of the person’s house, or the boundary of the town? With regards to the destination, will it be calculated at the boundary of the town, or the house at which he’d be visiting?

Answer

It’s calculated from boundary to boundary.

فيقصر الفرض الرباعي من نوى السفر ولو كان عاصيا بسفره إذا جاوز بيوت مقامه وجاوز أيضا ما اتصل به من فنائه. وإن انفصل الفناء بمزرعة أو قدر غلوة لا يشترط مجاوزته.

والفناء: المكان المعد لمصالح البلد كركض الدواب ودفن الموتى. (نور الايضاح – باب صلاة المسافر)
