Question

I’d like to please know the amount of Mahr of Azwaaj-e-Mutahraat of Sayyidah Aaisha رضي الله عنها in Rands please?

Answer

Mullah Ali Qari Rahimahullah states in Mirqaat, the commentary of Mishkaat Sharif that the Mahr of the noble wives of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was 500 Dirhams. However, the Mahr of Umme Habeebah Radiallahu Anha was either 400 Dirhams (silver coins) or 400 Dinaars (gold coins). The Mahr of Umme Habeebah Radiallahu Anha was given from the wealth of Najaashi in honour of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.

This narration of 500 Dirhams is reported by Aishah Radiallahu Anha. 500 Dirhams is equivalent to 1530.9 grams and the current price of silver is R16.56 per gram. Hence, Mahr-e-Azwaaaj is approximately R25 367.01 as at 17 Safar 1446 / 22 August 2024.

Many scholars are of the view that 500 Dirhams was the dowry for the wives of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam and the daughters of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam.
