Trimming or shaving the moustache

Question

Q. Please explain the ruling regarding the shortening of the moustache. Is it compulsory to use a blade and remove it completely or can I just trim and shorten it using scissors or electric clippers?

Answer

Shaving and trimming the moustache are both established from the Hadith. There is a difference of opinion amongst the jurists as to which one is better as well. Hence, one has the choice of either trimming or shaving the moustache with trimming being the better option. (Fataawa DUZ 7/301-302)

Electric shavers are counted as trimmers as they remove hair by a scissor action and not a shaving action.
