When should istikhaara be done?

Question

Can you please tell me the ruling of offering Salaatul istikhaara. I have heard some scholars telling that it should be offered after you have decided to do the task/work. But it is generally said that it should be offered before doing any work. Can you please guide me?

Answer

Istikhaara means to seek goodness from Allah Ta'ala. Therefore istikhaara salaah can be performed at both times.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
