Is it permissible to work as an Uber driver?

Question

Is it permissible to work as an Uber driver? I heard that they require drivers to pay for insurance (third party property) which is not compulsory by government law for private car owners. This type of insurance is a stipulated requirement of the Uber company only.

Answer

Avoid taking out the insurance.

And Allah Ta'ala knows best.

عن أبي هريرة رضي الله عنه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم نهى عن بيع الغرر (سنن أبي داود، الرقم: 3376)

البيوع الفاسدة أنواع... ومنها أن يكون في المبيع أو في ثمنه غرر مثل بيع السمك في الماء وهو لا يقدر على تسليمه بدون الاصطياد والحيلة وبيع الطير في الهواء أو بيع مال الغير على أن يشتريه فيسلمه إليه لأنه باع ما ليس بمملوك له للحال وفي ثبوته غرر وخطر (تحفة الفقهاء 2/48)
