Should a person working on a ship perform Jumuah Salaah or Zuhr Salaah?

Question

I am working on a ship and I cannot come to shore for a minimum of 5 months. Is it permissible to perform Zuhr instead? I am the only Muslim on the ship. Please guide me.

Answer

Among the conditions for the validity of the Jumu'ah salaah is that the place where the Jumu'ah salaah is performed is a city. Hence, Jumu'ah salaah cannot be performed at sea. On the day of Jumu'ah, you should perform Zuhr salaah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

قال العلامة ابن عابدين - رحمه الله - : (قوله: إقامة) خرج به المسافر.( رد المحتار 2/153)

وهي فرض عين، كذا في التهذيب (ثم لوجوبها شرائط في المصلي) وهي الحرية والذكورة والإقامة والصحة، كذا في الكافي، والقدرة على المشي، كذا في البحر الرائق، والبصر، هكذا في التمرتاشي، حتى لا تجب الجمعة على العبيد والنسوان والمسافرين والمرضى، كذا في محيط السرخسي.(الفتاوى الهندية 1/144)
