Is it permissible to earn a living as a nasheed artist?

Question

Is it permissible to earn a living as a nasheed artist? One will get paid to sing at shows, etc.

Answer

We have not come across any kitaab of Fiqh showing that this type of occupation can be used as a source of income. Hence, one should refrain from this source of livelihood.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

ولا تجوز الإجارة على شيء من الغناء والنوح والمزامير والطبل وشيء من اللهو لأنه معصية والاستئجار على المعاصي باطل فإن بعقد الإجارة يستحق تسليم المعقود عليه شرعا ولا يجوز أن يستحق على المرء فعل به يكون عاصيا شرعا وكذلك الاستئجار على الحداء وكذلك الاستئجار لقراءة الشعر لأن هذا ليس من إجارة الناس والمعتبر في الإجارة عرف الناس ولأن ما هو المقصود إنما يحصل بمضي في المستأجر وهو السماع والتأمل والتفهم فلا يكون ذلك موجبا للأجر عليه (المبسوط للسرخسي 16/38)
