Question

Is it permissible to play monopoly (a board game)?

Answer

Not valuing time and wasting it in frivolities and useless activities is not in keeping with the nobility of a Muslim.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

وَالَّذينَ هُم عَنِ اللَّغوِ مُعرِضونَ ﴿سورة المؤمنين ٣﴾

أَفَحَسِبتُم أَنَّما خَلَقنـٰكُم عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُم إِلَينا لا تُرجَعونَ ﴿سورة المؤمنين ١١٥﴾

عن عبد الله بن عبد الرحمن بن أبي حسين، أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: إن الله ليدخل بالسهم الواحد ثلاثة الجنة: صانعه يحتسب في صنعته الخير والرامي به والممد به وقال: ارموا واركبوا، ولأن ترموا أحب إلي من أن تركبوا، كل ما يلهو به الرجل المسلم باطل، إلا رميه بقوسه، وتأديبه فرسه، وملاعبته أهله، فإنهن من الحق. (سنن الترمذي رقم 1637)

(و) كره (كل لهو) لقوله - عليه الصلاة والسلام - «كل لهو المسلم حرام إلا ثلاثة ملاعبته أهله وتأديبه لفرسه ومناضلته بقوسه».(الدر المختار 6/395)
