What is the purpose and significance of the khuffain (leather socks)?

Question

1. What is the purpose and significance of the khuffain (leather socks)? I don't understand the reason behind wearing it.

2. What is the reward for wearing it?

Answer

1. You do not need to. The fact that the khuffain has been sanctioned by the shariah is enough reason for you to emulate it.

2. It is a sunnat.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
