Finding the qiblah on a ship
Question
I am working on a ship for 6 months at a time. Sometimes we go from America to China and I cannot find the qibla. On sea, our normal application does not work properly so it is difficult to find the qibla. I am performing salaah without knowing qibla direction. Is it permissible?
Answer
If there is no way that you can find out from someone or you cannot even see the rising or setting of the sun then you will employ your discretion and perform your namaaz.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

Where scholars differ, it’s safer to take the more cautious view.

How do I find the qiblah direction?
“Primarily, one is not allowed to face the exact Qibla while relieving himself/herself nor turn his/her back towards Qibla as mentioned in various Ahadith due to the sanctity of the Qibla.”
