Husband forcing wife to break Ramadhaan fast to engage in sexual relations
Question
What do the scholars say regarding A woman who fasts during Ramadhaan. Her husband is not normally home and comes home for a week during Ramadhaan and forces her to break her fast for sexual relations and he himself doesn't fast. What should this woman do for her fast? Ss she committing sin by this act? Please give guidance.
Answer
She should not comply with his demands. If she feels quite certain that he is going to force her, then she should try her best to go away to some safe sanctuary e.g. her parent's house. It is not permissible for her under any circumstance to give in to his demands and break her fardh fast. Just as if he forces her to eat swine or drink wine or make zina, it will be haraam for her to comply, similarly if she obeys him in this, she will be sinful. If she breaks her fast, then together with qadha, kaffarah will also be compulsory upon her.
