Performing salaah a few degrees away from the qiblah

Question

I would like to confirm if the following is correct:

1. Someone told me that when reading salaah, when facing the qibla, if you are a few degrees wrong then it is maaf.

2. If someone is reading salaah facing the wrong direction then you must turn them towards the right direction or tell them and they can turn to the right direction without breaking their salaah and their salaah will be accepted.

Answer

1. The principle in Shari'ah is that if one's direction during Salaah was turned away from the qiblah to the extent of 45 degrees or less, the Salaah will be valid. If one's direction during Salaah was turned away from the qiblah to the extent of 46 degrees or more, the Salaah will not be valid and will have to be repeated.

2. You should inform him so that he performs salaah towards the qiblah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

How do I find the qiblah direction?

“Primarily, one is not allowed to face the exact Qibla while relieving himself/herself nor turn his/her back towards Qibla as mentioned in various Ahadith due to the sanctity of the Qibla.”
