Keeping contact with one's distant relatives

Question

Is it a must/obligatory to keep contact with distant relatives (parents cousins)? If a person does not wish to keep contact with distant relatives but the parents force him to do so, then what should he do? If a person doesn’t wish to keep any contact, will he be sinful?

Answer

Yes. They are not distant relatives, they are close relatives. He should maintain the relationship. It is wrong for him not to maintain a relationship.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
