Financial responsibility of taking care of unmarried women

Question

Is it correct to say that a father, brother and/or son is responsible to take care financially of their unmarried or widowed daughter, sister or mother till the day they make nikaah? Till that day, the husband thereafter takes on this responsibility.

Answer

If the father is around then he is responsible, and if he is not there then the son or brother.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
