Zakaat on debts
Question
I borrowed some money from my mother to buy a car. We used that money to pay for the car and I will be paying her back every month. Will zakaat have to be paid on that amount if it is already used in buying the car?
Answer
You will not have to pay zakaat for the amount of the debt (i.e. the amount you are owing your mother).
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
