Question

I have a question about i'tikaf. If we start itikaf on the night of the 21st there is a risk that we only complete nine nights (if Ramadan turns out to be 29 days). Will the sunnah still be fulfilled in this case? Or should we start the itikaf at the night of the 20th in order to make sure that we do at least 10 nights?

Answer

Yes. The sunnah will be fulfilled.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

What are the rules of i'tikaaf?

“In principle, fasting in the last ten days of Ramadhan is a requisite for the validity of the Sunnah I’tikaaf. If a person is unable to fast during whilst in I’tikaaf, the Sunnah I’tikaaf will not be valid.”
