Shopkeeper allowing one to take items and put the money in the till

Question

I work as a teacher at a Madrasah. The Madrasah has a tuckshop. When I buy from the tuckshop, the shopkeeper (an elderly Moulana) allows me to take what I want to buy and pay the money directly to the till. In fact, he told me to do this once or twice. There is no loss to the tuckshop in my doing this. Generally, the shopkeeper doesn't even know what I bought since I paid directly to the till. Is this permissible?

Answer

When he gave you permission to take the commodity and put the money into the till then it was permissible and the sale was valid. In other words he made you the wakeel to do the sale of any items in the shop. The Hanafi Fuqahaa have ruled that it is permissible for the wakeel to sell the goods to others and it is also permissible for him to sell the goods to himself.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
