Sneezing in Salaah

Question

Should you say alhumdulillah if you sneeze during prayer or wait till you have finished the salaah?

Answer

You should not say Alhamdulillah if you are performing Salaah.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

من عطس فقال له آخر يرحمك الله وهو في الصلاة فسدت صلاته لأنه يجري في مخاطبات الناس فكان من كلامهم بخلاف ما إذا قال العاطس أو السامع الحمد لله على ما قالوا لأنه لم يتعارف جواب (الهداية 1/62)

لو قال العاطس أو السامع الحمد لله لا تفسد لأنه ليس جوابا عرفا (درر الحكام1/102)

ولا يحمد إذا عطس ولا يشمت عاطسا ولا يرد السلام ولا يجيب المؤذن (البحر الرائق 1/256)
