Inhaling Vicks While Fasting

Question

Is it permitted to apply Vicks on the nose whilst fasting or to inhale Vicks/sniff a nasal inhaler such as fixit or inhale the spray of an air freshener whilst fasting?

Answer

Precaution demands that one should try to avoid inhaling Vicks.

(أو دخل حلقه غبار أو ذباب أو دخان ) ولو ذاكرا استحسانا لعدم إمكان التحرز عنه ومفاده أنه لو أدخل حلقه الدخان أفطر أي دخان كان ولو عودا أو عنبرا لو ذاكرا لإمكان التحرز عنه

قال في الشامي: أي بأي صورة كان الإدخال حتى لو تبخر ببخور فآواه إلى نفسه واستمه ذاكرا لصومه أفطر لإمكان التحرز عنه (رد المحتار على الدر المختار 2 /395)

لا يكره للصائم شم رائحة المسك والورد ونحوه مما لا يكون جوهرا متصلا كالدخان (رد المحتار 2/417)
