Question

Please can you clarify as to whether giving money (sadaqah) to a parent who cannot work actually be considered as "sadaqah"? I was told that it is our duty to look after our parents and give them money so it cannot be considered as sadaqah.

Answer

What is given to one’s parents is given with respect and love, just as one would spend on his wife and children. However, Allah Ta`ala will reward you for this as well.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
