Wiping the pan before sitting on it

Question

If on an English toilet at home the seat is wet, can I sit on it or do I assume that it is napaak water and have to clean it?

Answer

Precaution demands that you wipe it before you sit as it is possible that there could be urine drops on it.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

إذا استيقظ أحدكم من منامه فليغسل يده ثلاثا قبل أن يدخلها الإناء فإنه لا يدري أين باتت يده فأمر بغسل اليد احتياطا من نجاسة أصابته من موضع الاستنجاء ومعلوم أنها لا تغير الماء ولولا أنها مفسدة عند التحقيق لما كان للأمر بالاحتياط معنى (البحر الرائق 1/83)

ثم اعتبار أحد الجانبين يوجب الوضوء واعتبار الجانب الآخر لا يوجب الوضوء فالأخذ بالاحتياط أولى لقوله صلى الله عليه وسلم ما اجتمع الحلال والحرام في شيء إلا وقد غلب الحرام الحلال (المبسوط للسرخسي 1/77)
