Fasting on behalf of a deceased person

· 19 Jumada I 1436 AH1 min readEnglish

Question

Is it permissible for a person to combine two or more intentions on fasting: the first intention is fasting to please Allah or for any other reason. the second intention is to replace the missed obligatory fasts of a deceased person even if that deceased person when living did not intend to make up for the missed obligatory fasts?

Answer

It is not permissible for any person to fast on behalf of another person. Hence it is impermissible for one to make two intentions; one for the sake of Allah Ta'ala and the second on behalf of the missed fast of a deceased person.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
