Question

Is it ok to say “Jumma Mubarak?” Because my friends and relatives tells me it is bidat or not correct to say it. Also they say, saying “Taqbal Allah” after any good deed? is that bidat too?

Answer

There is no basis in Shariah for greeting one another with Jumuah Mubarak on the day of Jumuah. “Jumuah Mubarak“which has only been introduced recently in society and is fast becoming an ingrained custom that is circulated around in the form of WhatsApp, SMS and other methods. In fact, to regard it as Sunnah or an integral part of Jumu’ah could result in it becoming a bid’ah.

With regard to bid’ah (innovations) and newly introduced customs, Rasulullah Sallalllahualaihi Wasallam’s warning is very clear;

“He who introduces into our Deen any such action which is no part of our Deen, then such an action will be rejected.”

[Sahih Muslim].

With regard to saying “Taqabbal-Allahu Minna Wa Minka” which means that “May Allah Ta’aala accept our and your Ibaadaat.” It is narrated that the Sahabah Radiallahu Anhum would greet each other with these words on the day of Eid. In fact, due to the fact that in many places, saying “Eid Mubarak” has become so prevalent, that it has assumed the form of a custom, to the extent that the Sunnah way (saying Taqabbal-Allahu Minna Wa Minka) has been totally discarded and forgotten, it would be advisable to avoid saying “Eid Mubarak.” Instead, the public should be educated and taught the correct Sunnah way as was implemented by Sahabah Radiallahu Anhum.

Hafiz Ibn Hajar Rahimahullah who is the famous commentator of Bhukari Shareef has dedicated a booklet with regards to saying the words Taqabbal-Allahu Minna Wa Minka on the day of Eid.
