An Imaam Leading Salaah Whilst Seated On A Chair

· 29 Safar 1445 AH1 min readEnglish

Question

An Imaam led the Salaah for a period of time while seated on a chair. The Sajdah was made by indication. Is it necessary to repeat the Salaah by the followers or is Imaamat on a chair valid?

Answer

Salaah behind an Imaam who is sitting on a chair and performing Ruku and Sajdah by indication (whilst the Muqtadis are able to perform all the postures of Salaah correctly) is invalid as the Imaam is in a lower position than the Muqtadis.

Therefore, Salaah performed behind such an Imaam will have to be repeated by the Muqtadis.
