Question

Can the household contents in an estate be distributed as a person wishes or does it have to be distributed according to Shariah?

Answer

It is incorrect to freely distribute household contents without the consent of the heirs. In a case where there are minors involved, it will be best to sell the contents at the current market value to any of the heirs or to any interested buyer and the monies accrued be distributed amongst the heirs.
