Question

Does cream fall under the mas’alah of oil with regards to wudhu and ghusal?

Answer

If the cream is such that it allows the water to reach the skin then wudhu and ghusal will be valid. If it doesn’t allow the water to reach the skin then wudhu and ghusal will not be valid. This is in the case where there was no need for one to use the cream. However, if one had used the cream for medical reasons, then even if the water did not reach the skin, the wudhu will be valid.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

( وشرط صحته ) أي الوضوء ( ثلاثة ) ... ( و ) الثالث ( زوال ما يمنع وصول الماء إلى الجسد ) لحرمة الحائل (كشمع وشحم ) (مراقي الفلاح ص61-62)

قال الشامي : …قوله ( به يفتى ) صرح به في الخلاصة وقال لأن الماء شيء لطيف يصل تحته غالبا ا هـ ويرد عليه ما قدمناه آنفا ومفاده عدم الجواز إذا علم أنه لم يصل الماء تحته قال في الحلية وهو أثبت ا هـ (رد المحتار 1/154)
