Keeping a nafl fast only on a Friday
Question
I fasted today (Friday) but later I saw a few hadeeth on not fasting on a Friday, so do I still have to keep it or... (I made niyyah only for today).
Answer
In regard to keeping a nafl fast only on a Friday, there are two views in the hanafi mazhab. Most fuqaha are of the opinion that fasting on a Friday independently is permissible. However, some fuqaha are of the opinion that one should not fast only on a Friday, rather one should keep a fast before or after as well. As for keeping qadha fast only on a Friday, then there is no harm in this.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
