Students performing Taraweeh in the Madrasah Classroom
Question
There are several venues for Taraweeh. Masjids as well as madressah classrooms and several homes. The madrasah classroom taraweeh is performed by hufaaz students with two senior hufaaz. This jalsa comprises of approximately total 15/20 people with a few adults present. This weekend the Madrassah taraweeh jalsa was going to be cancelled because there were insufficient huffaz as most of them decided to go out in jamaat. Fortunately a senior haafiz stood in to help correct the only 2 huffaaz left who read 10 rakaats each. Is it correct for the huffaz to be going out in jamaat and this in turn would cancel their taraweeh jalsa in the Madrassah? Is it correct what they had done?
Answer
Perhaps they felt that the old haafiz will do the taraaweeh in their place.
And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

How many raka'at is taraweeh?
“Twenty Raka’ats of Tarawih is a Sunna Muakkada, and leaving a Sunna Muakkada without a valid reason is prohibited. Therefore, you cannot perform eight or less than twenty Raka’ats, except for a valid reason in Shariah.”
