Question

I have 4 kids ages 21, 20, 16 and 7. I'm 43 and my husband is 51.

We found out that we are pregnant again and very scared because of health issues as well. What is the Islamic stand on abortion?

Answer

Being blessed with offspring is a great bounty from the side of Allah Ta’ala. One needs to be grateful to Allah Ta’ala for this favour. How can one ever think of aborting the fetus in the womb.

The Fuqaha have ruled this as a great sin even if it is done at the beginning of the pregnancy. If abortion is done after four months of pregnancy, then since the fetus has life at this time, then this is tantamount to killing a soul.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.
